Gmail backup

For those concerned about data security, I found a straightforward tool to backup the entirety of your Gmail inbox: http://www.gmail-backup.com/
I keep hearing about people logging in one day to an empty inbox, so I think it may be worth the small effort, if you value your correspondence.

Our heavy feet burning, we vanquished mountains

Well, well, well.

My first NaNoWriMo took place last year at Université Laval, Québec, and it was a wonderfully intense experience. This one was even better.

Now November 2007 is over and done with, and on last Saturday the Parisian Thank God It's Over Party gathered most French wrimos for a wonderful evening of fun, increased acquaintance and belated Chinese noodles.

Asserting that I knew no one at the first Meet-up is not an exaggeration, but the bare truth. I was slightly uneasy and even considered staying home. How glad I am now that I came!

The sheer amount of awesome people I met this month is dazzling.
It would seem that the love of writing is only the delightful tip of an entire iceberg of common interests -- blogging, movies, fantasy, music, foreign tv shows, and perhaps the love of live, movement, interaction.
One could retort that such interests are common and to be found among any group of people, but the truth is that I never witnessed such a homogeneous concentration of talent and passion in any set of friends.

So the people, clearly, were awesome -- and meeting them, in itself, would already have been a very magical gift for this November of mine.

But then, there was the writing. And Lord, did we write. Very few of us didn't reach their goal, and those who didn't had very good reasons for sorting out their life priorities that way. Those who did never stopped, even when the writing got funny, when the characters went bonkers, when sleep deficit was so bad we starting drinking soap and washing with orange juice. But I can say for sure that everyone did their best, day after day, and the spirit of NaNo -- unbridled creativity, limitless creation, fun and speed excitement -- was palpable every step of the way.

As for me, I started off with a quick start, only to slow down considerably during week two. Yet I managed to get a grip later on, and all went well in the end. The 50k (or as [livejournal.com profile] lilibel would say to improve her wordcount: the fifty thousand) words were reached, the story finished, and dishes were still undone as I used up every last golden minute of November.

Now, I want to edit. My NaNoWriMo 2006 is still pretty much untouched (except a round of automatic spellcheck), and I think I like it. I'll have to read it from beginning to end first before I can really say that, obviously. It's all in the plans, and I'm starting this week.

This year's novel will be edited too, but some time has to flow by before -- so I can acquire the proper critical distance to it.

Generous hugs fly out to all my fellow Wrimos, and to all my other friends who had to endure a month of noveling obsession.

Sorry guys, I plan do to it again next year ;)

NaNo Day 2

It's only two in the afternoon, and I'm already at 3510, which means 1400 words for today so far. Oh yes, this is going to be a very good day!

NaNo Day 1

My first day for NaNo 2007, and a total of 2155 words so far. I had hoped for more, but it isn't too shabby neither. Tomorrow's goal is to lock the internal editor in for good, and start rolling out 3000+ words days.

To put things in perspective, one French WriMo managed 10 001 words today, and an american woman managed over 20 000. Wow.

All in all, things are looking much better than last year, since I basically didn't start writing before day 9 that time. So since I still won that time I can't lose now, can I ? :D

You have been warned

So, this is it. NaNo again. I'm all set. Food for the mind, not to forget the buddy. Ideas are aplenty. Procrastination still happens, but I shall overcome!

This November, expect almost only NaNo-related entries on this LJ. Sorry for those who are not interested ^^

To build on [livejournal.com profile] silver_topaz's mention of Bowling alone, here's a list of 150 things to do to connect more with the people around us (and far from us).

Short movie extract : Summer Blues from Frank Mosvold

Nine minutes from this touching, gay romance themed movie are available on Daily Motion here.
A nice soundtrack too, with some Moby.
